Chapter 9: Little Ancestor, Please Don’t Let It Get to Your Head

Fortunately, Mu Qinghan wasn’t in the habit of using much incense. Otherwise, one day, he might just jump at a woman he saw.

With his chin propped up on one hand, Mu Qinghan’s cold, impassive eyes—hidden behind his sunglasses—were fixed on Gu Li. His thin lips were slightly pursed, but his gaze was intense.

The young man standing before her was someone she’d seen three days ago, yet there was something subtly different about him.

His eyebrows—distinctive, almost a defining feature of his masculinity—gave him away. And the scar under his left eye appeared authentic, not fake.

But his aura... it was so eerily similar to the woman she had encountered before.

Mu Qinghan’s fingertips brushed lightly over his lips, but his gaze remained fixated on Gu Li’s red lips, which were perpetually curled into an amused, almost mischievous smile. He studied her intently, his eyes obscured by the dark lenses of his sunglasses.

Gu Li, unfazed, remained silent.

After all, they were living in the same apartment building—why would she worry about not seeing her prey again?

She had heard the rumors about the second master of the Mu family. They said that three months ago, he had been in a car accident abroad, leaving him with hemiplegia, partial blindness, and a mild concussion. As a result, Mu Qinghan had been marginalized by his own family and even moved out of the Mu residence.

When the car finally stopped at the apartment, Gu Li thanked him and made her way out. Before she left, she gave Mu Qinghan a playful wink from the car.

But to her surprise, as soon as they reached the elevator, Le Tian was right behind them, pushing Mu Qinghan’s wheelchair.

With a smile, Le Tian explained, "Second Master also lives in Building C."

Gu Li allowed a small, knowing smile to tug at her lips but said nothing in response.

The elevator ascended smoothly until it stopped on the 11th floor, where the two of them followed Le Tian out.

And then, as if fate had a hand in it, Gu Li saw Le Tian press a fingerprint to unlock the door next to Mu Qinghan’s.

Gu Li smirked, her voice dripping with playful irony: "Second Master Mu, we’re really quite destined, aren’t we?"

Mu Qinghan’s face remained expressionless, his handsome features hidden behind those ever-present sunglasses. With a cold snort, he rolled his wheelchair into the apartment, slamming the door shut behind him without a second thought.

Gu Li merely shrugged, closing her own door with a soft click.

As soon as she did, her phone pinged with a message.

Fifth Brother.

Fifth Brother was her cousin, the son of her aunt.

[My dear, I’ve got a request. Someone’s offering a high price for a fragrance to cure insomnia. I don’t want to make the decision for you—should I accept it?]

Gu Li tapped her chin thoughtfully, recalling the "sedative" fragrance she had caught a whiff of from Mu Qinghan next door. She quickly typed out her reply.

[Of course.]

Moments later, her phone rang. It was Fifth Brother.

"My dear, how do you feel about coming back to China?"

Gu Li chuckled softly. "Fifth Brother, you’re making a big fuss. Everything’s fine, and..." She paused, eyes narrowing as a sly smile curled on her lips. "I think I found my next prey."

"What? Little ancestor, you have a crush on some man? Come on, spill it—who is it? Or I’ll end up being your sixth brother!"

Gu Li snorted. "Not happening."

"By the way, your fourth brother’s in the Imperial Capital, right? When you come back, go see him."

Gu Li’s eyes flickered. "Now’s not the right time. I want to surprise Fourth Brother. Don’t tell him. Oh, and Fifth Brother, I need a favor—help me look into the Second Master of the Mu family."

A long silence followed on the other end of the line.

Then, five seconds later, Fifth Brother’s voice came through, filled with incredulity: "No way... don’t tell me you have a thing for Mu Qinghan!"

Gu Li couldn’t help but wince at the loud, frantic shout, imagining Fifth Brother jumping out of the phone to strangle her.

"Well, yes. It’s him."

"No! That paralyzed man is blind, you can’t—"

"Will you help or not? If not, I’ll go to my big brother instead—"

"Okay, okay, okay! I’ll check into it! But please, don’t let this get to your head, my dear!"

After the call ended, Gu Li’s gaze fell on the apartment’s furnishings.

It was her brother’s style, no doubt about it.

Before returning to China, she’d had her assistant deliver her most important items to her brother’s apartment. Everything else left at the Su family’s place was just the trivial stuff that belonged to him.

The Su family, however, would definitely make her pay for what happened today.

She was only waiting for the scum of the Su family to get angry and make a fool of themselves.
