Next door,
Le Tian stood rigidly, watching as Mu Qinghan rose from his wheelchair and retrieved a small porcelain bottle from the cabinet.
It was "Deep."
Mu Qinghan sneered, tossing the perfume bottle into the trash can. "If you can't find a decent one, I'll be deducting a month's salary."
Le Tian's face fell. "Second Master, I've been thinking... The fragrance made by Miss Rose is the best on the market, second only to 'Master Lan Xin.' It would be perfect for your insomnia."
Mu Qinghan’s expression remained unchanged as he replied coolly, "I'll give you two days to get the incense from Master Lan Xin. If not, two months' salary will be deducted."
After that, he turned and walked toward the balcony, his gaze falling across the narrow gap between his apartment and the one next door.
He had moved into Hua'an Apartment three months ago and had heard rumors about his neighbor. Apparently, the infamous Su Zheng from the Su family lived next door.
Le Tian, still dejected, muttered about the cruelty of capitalists as he scrolled through his phone in frustration. "I paid a premium back then, but now I can't find Master Lan Xin anywhere. Her assistant keeps saying she's abroad and can't make perfume. Ugh!"
Suddenly, Le Tian froze. "Wait, what?!"
Mu Qinghan shot him a look of irritation.
Le Tian continued excitedly, "A friend just told me that Miss Rose is in the capital and can meet with us to remake the perfume!"
Mu Qinghan stared at him with cold, bored eyes. "Fine. Arrange a meeting."
Le Tian sighed in relief, but the man’s next words made him wince.
"But I want Master Lan Xin's incense. Two days."
Le Tian bit back a sigh, putting on a forced smile. "Of course, Second Master."
Mu Qinghan paused for a moment, then added, "By the way, find out everything you can about Su Zheng. I want all his information within half an hour."
…
Half an hour later,
Le Tian handed over the information with a satisfied expression. "Second Master, it's all true. Su Zheng has a twin sister named Gu Li, who lives in Country M. The funny part? Su Hong didn’t even know he had a daughter. Quite amusing, isn't it?"
Mu Qinghan drummed his fingers against the armrest of his chair, deep in thought.
…
On the first day of school at University A, only a basic theoretical course was scheduled.
In the vast lecture hall, three classes were packed together. The professor’s voice barely carried over the low murmur of students whispering excitedly.
Gu Li sat casually, her chin resting in her palm, tuning out the chatter.
The girls around her were gossiping animatedly, clearly excited about something.
The girl closest to her whispered, "Miss Rose has returned to China! I love her fragrance so much that my mother spent a fortune on 'Youshen'!"
"Not just that," another added, "The movie queen Chu Yan specifically requests it. I wish I could buy it, but it’s so expensive—it’s like buying luxury goods!"
A handsome boy on the other side of the room snorted in disdain. "Seems like you all don't know how to recognize scents. I know a master who’s far better than Miss Rose."
The girls exchanged skeptical glances but said nothing.
Gu Li paused, her pen spinning between her fingers, and glanced at the boy who had spoken.
It was Xiao Han, a classmate and also her brother’s former high school classmate. They were familiar enough to nod at each other in passing, but no more.
When Xiao Han saw her glance, he grinned and strolled over. "Su Zheng, where are you headed after class?"
Gu Li narrowed her eyes and replied flatly, "Back to the apartment."
"Perfect timing," Xiao Han continued with a teasing smile. "I ran into your girlfriend the other day. She asked about you. I’ll be sure to tell her next time."
At the mention of his "girlfriend," several of the girls nearby turned to look at Gu Li, curiosity flashing across their faces.
